Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 VfB Stuttgart: Xabi Alonso's side score late equaliser to remain unbeaten

Bayer Leverkusen scored another dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to extend their unbeaten run to 46 games with a draw against Stuttgart.

Robert Andrich netted in the 96th minute at the BayArena to secure a point for Leverkusen, who have already been crowned Bundesliga champions.

They had trailed 2-0 after 56 minutes on Saturday but fought back to keep their unbeaten record in tact.

Leverkusen also equalised in added time last week against Borussia Dortmund.

Xabi Alonso's side secured their first German title with five games to spare but are aiming for the first unbeaten campaign in Bundesliga history - and remain on course with three games left.

Chris Fuhrich lashed home to open the scoring for third-placed Stuttgart just after the break, before Deniz Undav tucked into the bottom corner nine minutes later.

Leverkusen pulled one back through Amine Adli but it looked like Alonso's team were finally heading for a first defeat of the campaign - until Andrich finished from 10 yards out inside a crowded penalty area.

A similar story had played out last week when Leverkusen needed a 97th-minute equaliser from Josip Stanisic to seal a 1-1 draw against Dortmund.

Jeremie Frimpong had also scored an 89th-minute equaliser against West Ham in the Europa League just days before that as Leverkusen maintain their pursuit of a European trophy.

They remain unbeaten in all competitions this season with 39 wins and seven draws - having failed to score just once - and are on course for a remarkable treble in Alonso's first full season in charge, with the German Cup final still to come.

Leverkusen face Serie A side Roma in the Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday.

Unless for some reason you just don't like the club (or maybe if you support Roma or Kaiserslautern?) I'd like to think all football fans are willing Leverkusen on to an unbeaten season.

Considering Bayern can't win the title, I'm hoping Leverkusen complete the job(just without matching Bayern's second-best and third best points tallies of 90 and 88 respectively(don't make Guardiola and Heynckes' iconic teams obsolete)).

Incredible season. They only have to beat second division Kaiserslautern to secure a domestic double and are also big favourites to win the Europa League.

They've wracked up a huge amount of stoppage time goals to keep the unbeaten record in tact. Mentality monsters.

I hope that Alonso stays and they keep the nucleus of the squad together and give the champions League a good go next season.

Couldn't agree more. It's refreshing to see sports coverage that doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator. My only concern is too many stories like this, which deviate from populist narratives, might fill up the internet. There's only a certain amount of space available, after all...

Even as a Bayern supporter I really have nothing to say other than HOW???? Even our 2012/2013 treble-winning squad didn't manage to stay undefeated for this long! Just don't take our points records. Other than that, this is ultimately impressive.

Easy choice last night. Everton vs. Brentford or Leverkusen vs. Stuttgart. I chose the one most likely to involve football. The game at Goodison was unlikely to feature any attractive football. I caught the half-time report confirming expectations. The game at the BayArena was end-to-end, good passing, competitive, at least two world-class goalkeeping saves, and excitement well into added-time.
