Jordan Pickford: Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has 'total confidence' in goalkeeper

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti says goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has his "total confidence".

The England international, 26, was criticised for his mistakes in the 5-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

A poor pass from Pickford led to Fleetwood's first goal, while he later failed to save an overhead kick which was straight at him.

"I am not really focused on him, like you [the media]," said Ancelotti.

Pickford has started Everton's opening two Premier League matches - wins over Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion - as well as the EFL Cup tie.

"He started really well and did a fantastic match against Tottenham," said Ancelotti on Friday.

"He is a great goalkeeper. He has my total confidence."

Ancelotti also denied reports linking Everton with a move for Manchester United's Argentina keeper Sergio Romero.

"We are not looking for this," said the 61-year-old Italian.

Everton, who are second in the Premier League, travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday (15:00 BST kick-off).

Ancelotti sets target for Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison

Ancelotti also said he expects forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison to score 20 goals each this season following the signing of Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

Englishman, 23, Calvert-Lewin has four goals from two Premier League games and 23-year-old Brazil international Richarlison scored twice against Fleetwood, though has not netted in the league.

"James Rodriguez is going to help the strikers because he is a fantastic assist man," said Ancelotti.

"I hope he [Calvert-Lewin] can reach 20 goals because he has the quality and ability, like Richarlison.

"With James at the time in Madrid, [Cristiano} Ronaldo scored 56 goals. I am not honestly going to ask Dominic to score 56 goals, but he has to try to do his best.

"We have two fantastic strikers and behind them we have James and [Gylfi] Sigurdsson.

"I think if they do not score at least 20 goals each they can have a problem with me.

"If I play as a striker and I have behind me James, Sigurdsson, [Andre] Gomes, I can score goals - and so they have to."
