Boreham Wood have been relegated from the National League following a goalless draw with Ebbsfleet United.

Wood join Kidderminster Harriers, Dorking Wanderers and Oxford City in dropping down to the sixth tier of English football.

It ends a nine-year stay in the National League with manager Luke Garrard also stepping down.

Boreham Wood finished sixth in the division last season, but this campaign they have only won 12 of their 46 games.

Wood went close on four minutes when Jack Payne's shot was deflected wide after a goalmouth scramble but posed little threat for the remainder of the first half.

The hosts had the ball in the net just before the hour mark but referee Robert Massey-Ellis blew for a foul on Ebbsfleet keeper Mark Cousins.

Dominic Poleon pounced on a loose ball in the 63rd minute but Boreham Wood keeper Nathan Ashmore got down quickly to make the save.

Ben Chapman passed up a great chance to fire Ebbsfleet ahead five minutes from time, slicing wide with only Ashmore to beat after being set up by Poleon, and Ashmore pulled off a smart save to deny Dominic Samuel in the 89th minute.

    How are Ebbsfleet near the bottom playing football like that?
    Looked solid at the back and midfield kept it's shape and they also looked dangerous going forward?!
    Boreham Wood will bounce back I'm sure.

    As a Barnet supporter in some way it is sad to see the Wood relegated, and hope in some way our 6-0 win against you was not the start of your decline.

    So sorry to see Wood go down. My father played for them many, many years ago. He he was so happy when they were promoted seven years ago.

    Ebbsfleet deserve to stay up. They have played some good football since change of manager. Sad to see Boreham Wood go down, but they let some games get away from them

    I'm gutted for Boreham Wood. The end of season was good - four games without conceeding but the damage was done with the 1-4 defeat at home to Dorking, last minute goals conceeded in other games.
    I really wish Luke Garrard was staying but I guess he had taken the team as far as he could. Good luck to him, wherever he goes next, and good luck to Wood for next season.

    Wow, didn’t see that coming.
    Boreham Wood, one of the mainstays in the NL for the last few seasons, along with Bromley and Solihull Moors.
    Just shows their are no guarantees in this game.

      Didn't have the Wood down for relegation at the start of the season. Definitely a surprise. Oxford, Dorking and Kiddie were good bets for the relegation places. Mind you, I didn't think York would be in the mix and expected a mid-table position.

    Wood didnt really display the urgency required. Perhaps some of these players have been at the club too long and have got too comfortable.

    Boreham wood were also unfortunate that they played Chesterfield when they did, in the game that gave Chesterfield the championship, as immediately after that Chesterfield lost to to York, Kidderminster and Wealdstone

    real turnaround in fortunes for Boreham Wood from a couple of seasons back. I would imagine they will be one of the main contenders to return from NL South at the end of next season. Nice stadium and better than some of those in the National League who remain

    Oh how the mighty have fallen. Wasn't so long ago the world woke up to Boreham when they pulled off one of the biggest shocks ever in football by beating Bristol Rovers away. Where has it all gone wrong since then? Is it greed, corruption or did losing their best players to Barca just dismantle this project?

      Greed and corruption? I doubt it - maybe do some research before making those kind of accusations.
      The club has one of the lowest budgets and gets very small crowds, so has been punching above its weight. Anyway, let's hope the club bounces back next season.
